Many of the big jobs that needed to be done at the observatory were taken care of at the work party on May 8th but there are a few more that need to be done before the RocheStar Fest on July 9-11. Some of the items on the list will already be finished before the next work party scheduled for Saturday, June 26th but please try to make it out for a couple of hours if you possibly can. The work party will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and we should be able to get everything on the list done in that amount of time. Much of the work will be inside so we'll try to get the outside jobs done, like sealing the deck and other painting work, at other times between now and then. The list below is a revision of the last work party items with those in bold being the most important ones to have done. If you have a chance to attack any job on the list before the work party, please feel free to do so. If you are not sure where to find the various paints, tools, etc. please send me a note or call me at 315-1850. Work Party at Ionia, Saturday, June 26, 2010
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
1. Vacuum / sweep out all building.
2. Sweep and wax classroom and both restroom floors
3. Wipe down all tables
4. Paint the floors in the 3 hilltop observatories
5. Stain the deck and ramp
6. Scrub the big dome inside and out.
7. Paint the rails and column supports on the Cave building –Roger Slade
8. Clean out and arrange the garage.
9. Clean our and arrange the basement.
10. Burn the brush pile in the parking area and rake it out.
11. Mount new signs on 3 of the buildings. Signs ordered 6/15.
12. Remount the entrance sign, cut down large bush, landscape area.
13. Scrape and paint the blue door on the Cave roll-off.
14. Paint the entrance swing gate and supports.
15. Stock bottled water and pop.
16. Inventory paper plates, cups, dinnerware, napkins, paper towels,
garbage bags (lg and sm) & restroom supplies.
17. Clean and put dust covers over all of the telescopes in the basement &
classroom.
