Unesco and the International Astronomical Union have declared 2009, the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first telescopic observation, as the International Astronomic Year.
Events are being planned worldwide on all levels, from international down to the local level.
AAVSO is one of the National coordinating organizations and they are actively looking for ideas and participants.
Participants will range from Amateurs all the way to Professional Observatories to all types of Science institutions.
Sounds like a great way to get involved.
