Sir,
I thought of asking if there's any possibility of having primary mirror making class in the Wolk Observatory at Ionia, NY???
I am wondering about this. |

Speaking of taking a month... to reply, that is. Sorry. Holidays are so crazy!
We haven't done any mirror grinding in the club in a while. Occasionally, there will be someone who goes through the process and we've seen people sell mirror kits at our annual RocheStar Fest, also... but nothing really organized. There are some great books and several East Coast 'star parties' where it is demonstrated/taught.
That said, there are folks in the club who know what they're doing with this topic and could be of great assistance to you! I would post a thread or send a general email to the club asking who might be willing to assist and see if you can get a small group together to meet and begin the process! Your desire to 'push glass' may just spark others who've thought about it, too! |

I am not actually a member of the club. A bit far out for meetings here in Retsof. If there was a mirror grinding class or workshop I would join for that. I recently ordered a 10" quartz blank from recolabs.com and hope to start generating a f6 curve in it by the end of the month.

Dave,
Do a google search for the "ATM resource list. It is a very helpful list of companies that supply Amateur telescope makers.
There are companies there that supply Abrasive kits designed to take a mirror all the way to completion. There are also listings for all kinds of other parts from tubes to nuts and bolts as well as telescope plans.
HINT: Try the "Hastings Telescope Page"
This is a company that supplies pipes for Irrigation Syatems. I think the owner is an Amateur Astronomer. Anyway, he will supply tubes cut to size for your Telescope and even roll the edges for you if you request it.
All at a much more reasonable price than the so-called Tube manufacturers.
